Critical Role liveblog episode 33: Fresh to the world of vice
This one finds our heroes in Nicodranas, and I for one am kinda psyched to finally meet Jester’s mum.

Ohhhhh that’s right, Jester spent basically her whole life locked up, didn’t she. Fuck.

Fjord: “That could be a pituitary thing. I’ve never seen a sea creature in my life.”

I adore Caduceus’s lack of worldliness so much.
Jester: “The singing pulls in the other things.” (To Caduceus) “You know what I mean?”
Caduceus, smiling warmly: “No.”

Fjord: “Do you ever wish you could do what she does?”
Jester: “Be pretty, and graceful, and sing really good, and have a bunch of people she’s wonderful? No, of course not! I like myself just the way I am.”
This is so refreshing. This episode is a goddamn delight of Happy Jester content, and it makes me so happy.

Aw, the Nein meeting the Ruby is so charming.
Also, just pointing out that Caleb, although rusty, indicates to me that in another life he would’ve been perfectly comfortable with the attendant social mores of meeting the Ruby. What did I say a few episodes ago about Caleb learning all of this stuff under Ikithon?

Marion: “They are the rats of the city. Thank you, I have had plenty.”
Nott, happily: “They sure are.”

Caleb can be such a sweetheart sometimes.
[To Marion| “Well, we have two of the world’s best detectives with us; that should be an easy task to fulfil.”

YESSSSS I GET TO SEE THE BIT WHERE OUR HEROES DISCOVER THAT THE GENTLEMAN IS JESTER’S DAD IN SITU
(Wow, Travis worked it out *so fast*. Like, one wistful look from Ruby/Matt and he realises.)

Marisha: This is the best episode of Maury ever!

Liam wanting to know if Jester seems okay, seeing her mum, is as far as I’m concerned, is a follow-on from a couple episodes ago, when he was talking about her hiding how she was feeling after the kidnapping. He’s *so* much better at people than he thinks he is. He struggles at interaction, but he sees so much.
(I’m sorry (not sorry) how much I talk about Caleb, but he’s the most interesting character in the Nein for me.)

HELP NOTT HAS JUST SAID THAT SHE WOULD GO FOR A SWIM WITH JESTER IF SHE WANTED AND NEEDED IT AND THEIR BUDDING FRIENDSHIP IS SO IMPORTANT TO ME

God, the way that Liam/Caleb is watching Laura/Jester while she talks forlornly about her father, and how happy she is that she’s got to see her mum, I just. I think Caleb was probably a very empathetic person before it got beaten out of him by the Solstryce Academy and the Empire and trauma. Fuck.
(Then, if you really want to make yourself unhappy, think about how he would have been trained to hone that empathy into a weapon.)

I know American pronunciations aren’t ‘wrong’, and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise (I have politely fought strangers who were mocking other Englishes), but it sounds so weird to me.

‘Guns out’ is now the official name for the Fjord & Beau friendship, it has been decided.

Caleb should throw open scorn more often, because the whole thing with the emerald wizard tower is beautiful.

Nott: “I’m just saying [the puppy] is cute, so let’s be friends again and keep going, okay?”
I feel like Nott has fully adopted the rest of the group by now. She’s so invested in them now.
